Irene R. Briscar
MANTUA
Irene R. Briscar, 79 years of age, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014
at Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Irene was born on October 23,
1934 in Lemont, Pennsylvania, the 13th child of the late Andy and
Kathryn (Paroda) Lucas. She was a graduate of North Union High School in
Uniontown, Pennsylvania, and on May 28, 1956, she married her loving
husband Ambrose J. Briscar in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in
Uniontown. Irene was a member also of Jednota Branch No. 162 in
Uniontown. A resident of the Mantua area since 1970, Irene had been
employed as a telephone operator for Ohio Bell Telephone, and had worked
in the cafeteria for Crestwood School System. As a faithful member of
St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua, Irene contributed her time to
assisting in the lunch room, as well as working for many years at the Ox
Roast. Irene will always be remembered as a Loving wife, a Great mother,
and Devoted Grandma (BaBa) to her grandchildren whom she loved scrap
booking for, and a Dear sister to her siblings.
Survivors include her loving husband Ambrose at home, a son Andrew
Briscar of Mantua, a daughter Jean Marie (Keith) Smith of Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, her grandchildren Dylan Briscar and Kaitlyn Rose whom she
both adored, and her sisters Wilma Hanna of Eastlake, Ohio and Irma
Yandura of Shamrock, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her
siblings Johnny, Edward, John, Albert, Andrew and William Lucas, Pauline
Billitter, Ann Pillar, Kathryn Pascute and Margaret Hardy. Calling hours
will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Green Family Funeral
Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where prayers will be said Thursday
at 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 16,
2014, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua with Rev.
Michael Garvey officiating. Final resting place will follow at Westlawn
Cemetery in Mantua Township, Ohio. Her obituary is at
